ADELE, An English Singer
Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, is a 31-year old English citizen, singer and
a songwriter. She rose up as a singer
being influenced and inspired by the Spice Girls, also impersonating them as a
young child. She whole-heartedly credits the same saying, "They made me,
what I am today."
EARLY LIFE AND FAMILY: Adele was born on May 5, 1988, to mother,
Penny Adkins and father, Marc Evans in London, England. Her father abandoned
her mother and Adele when she was just two years old. She was brought up by her single mother. She was so much obsessed with voices at a very early age of
four and started singing.
She and her mother had to shift
multiple places as she was growing. She used to be a cheerful girl and had many
friends.
EDUCATION:
Adele feels grateful to have graduated from the BRIT School for Performing
Arts & Technology in Croydon in May 2006, which in her words nurtured her
talent.
ADELE's CAREER JOURNEY: Adele, in the view of starting her career in
music took to an online platform. She recorded and published her songs on
online arts publication PlatformsMagazine.com.
Her school time demo, when published by a friend on Myspace, got an immense
recognition. She got signed for the music label XL Recordings. It was here, she
got started in her musical journey meeting many high-profile singers,
songwriters and producers. She made her television debut with her performance
on Later... with Jools Holland.
She has always cherished every moment
of her life and the linking of her songs with her life's journey describes it well
enough. Her first song, "Hometown Glory" written at an early age
evolved as a breakthrough. It subjected her relocations during her childhood.
For this, she also received Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal
Performance. Then, her memories and moments of youth took a look of flashback
in her song "Million Years Ago".
She received Brit Awards Critics' Choice becoming it's first
beneficiary.
Her music album 19, named for her age when the
maximum songs were written, embarked the British charts at number one. For the
great work, 19 got nominated for a 2008 Mercury Prize. For her Best Jazz
Act, she won an Urban Music Award. She was nominated in Q Awards for her
breakthrough act. Music of Black Origin nomination in the category of Best UK
Female was another feather in her cap.
It was the time to showcase her talent
at a global level and she got signed for her emergence in the US. Billboard
magazine recognized Adele as a respected and inspiring international artist. She
entered the US with the release of 19 there.
She went through an early life crisis
and cancelled her tours, later which she regretted since they led to her
failure in the US. But she managed to be a musical guest on NBC's Saturday Night Live. Adele's
performances in this album hopped onto 35 different top positions in a week.
The album rose to number 11 on the Billboard 200.
It got gold-certification from RIAA.
Adele was honoured with The Best New An artist by the Grammy Awards. For her song "Chasing Pavements, she was
awarded for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The song was also
nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Adele's performance of a duet
of Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" with Darius Rucker was
nominated for a CMT Music Award.
Adele's second studio album, 21 was
also inspired by her life. The music too denoted her growth in two years from
19 to 21. It topped charts in
30 countries, including the UK and the US. Her singles from both the albums
were the chartbusters. With the album, 21, Adele became the first artist to
sell a maximum number of copies in the UK in a one-calendar-year. Also, she held the
number-one position on the Billboard 200
with album 11 and three number one singles in concurrent positions. It also
turned out to be rolling on for a maximum number of weeks on the Billboard 200 chart of an album by a woman.
The two
songs "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone like you" broke
several sales performance records.
But, time is
never the same for any artist. She had experienced a vocal-cord haemorrhage. She
had to undergo surgery too before she could recover and return on-stage.
A recording of her tour, Live at the Royal Albert Hall became
the best-seller. Adele is the first artist in the history of Nielsen
SoundScan to have 21 as the year's number-one album, Rolling in the deep as the number-one single and Live at the Royal Albert Hall as the
number-one music video. For 21, she was awarded Favorite Pop/Rock Female
Artist, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, and Favorite Pop/Rock
Album.
In the Grammy awards, she won in all
the six nominated categories, including Album of the Year, Record of
the Year, and Song of the Year. She was awarded the Brit
Award for British Female Solo Artist, and British Album of the
Year, entertainer of the year by The Associated Press. This single album 21 has
won her so many laurels difficult for a single artist to accomplish all in one album.
Motivated by her past achievements
and inspired to go-on unbeatably, she composed and recorded the theme song for
the "Skyfall". This theme song earned Adele the Golden Globe
Award for Best Original Song and the Academy
Award for Best Original Song, Grammy Award for Best Song Written for
Visual Media.
Adele's live version of "Set Fire
to the Rain" won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance.
She broke the Vevo record too with her
single, "Hello".
Her third studio album, 25 was the
last music album with her age number as the name for the music album. Her
fourth music album is being worked upon and is expected to be released later
this year.
PERSONAL LIFE: Adele was married for
seven years to Konecki, with whom she has a son. They got divorced recently, this
year.
Politically, she supports the Labour
Party. She is a firm believer of equality whether it be in races or sexuality.
